All yoga is Hatha Yoga, But there are different traditions you have probably heard of. There are many different types of Hatha yoga classes being offered today. Some classes stress precision and attention to detail. Some place their emphasis on strength and/or endurance, while still others have an aerobic and toning essence to the class. I teach a combination of Integral Yoga, Kundalini, and Viniyoga.

While the classes I teach include the points mentioned above, my class emphasis is, for the most part, on the exploration of ourselves. By this I mean our physical, mental, and even more subtle selves .body, mind, and spirit. Yoga is not aerobics! It is knowing, and most importantly, listening to your body! If you don't feel like it, in Yoga, you just don't do it! You simply relax. Never, ever, in yoga should you push.

The System combines many methods of Yogic practice, integrating the many branches into a varied yet simple system. Integral Yoga is also the Hatha Yoga system utilized by Dr. Dean Ornish, MD, in his program for reversing heart disease.

In Viniyoga, you move into and out of a posture several times, coordinating the movement with the breath. Then you hold and breathe in the asana (pose). The concept here is that repetition is best for both structural transformation and neuromuscular re-patterning, which is especially important in yoga therapy. Viniyoga also involves a lot of poses done asymmetrically to isolate work in particular areas.

Kundalini is used in my class often for spinal warm ups and to release energy. This involves grinding, twisting, and rolling of the spine. It is akin to self massage.
